Aespyne Alix’s work explores health and wellness through the visual and educational arts.  Alix is a teaching artist on the Westside of Chicago, that uses art as a mental health resource in and outside of the classroom.  Aespyne continues to work in Chicago with local vendors and other visual artist on destigmatizing mental health within the community.

She Safe We Safe

08/19/2024

Aespyne Alix becomes By100 honorarium winner for her “Embraced by the Ancestor, Blessed by the Sun”.  This exhibition raised awareness about missing Black women and girls in Chicago and invites community leaders to discuss prevention, resources, and next steps.

Chateau Orquevaux

Aespyne Alix joins a 2 week long residency at Chateau Orquevaux and will showcase work completed during an Open Studio with 25 other artists from around the world

Collaboration with Ensemble in Process

Join Aespyne Alix, Brian Mark, and Allyson Clare for a night of music and art at the Chicago Epiphany Center for the Arts on May 19, 2024 at 7:30pm.  In collaboration with with Ensemble in Progress Aespyne’s “The Red Summer” has inspired a visual installation and musical composition.

ALN Residency

Aespyne Alix joins the Arts Letters and Numbers Residency in Albany New York.  There she will spend 1-2 weeks in community with artists and academics working on 3 new pieces inspired by the Great Migration.

HAZ Studios “Black Futures” Exhibition

This month for Mental Health Awareness, Chicago Artists Aespyne Alix and Saint Lui teamed up with SOGO Chicago and Footlocker for the “Let the Good Times Roll” collection.  The collection is available online and in Chicago retail stores May 14, 2022.  

BLVCK

2/13/2022  

Unladylike Gallery hosts its closing Art Exhibition, BLVCK, which features local Black Chicago artists in celebration of Black History Month.  Aespyne Alix exhibits the Love Yourself series and a collaboration with west side Chicago artist, Saint Lui.

Exposicion Colectiva

Alix joins residents from R.A.R.O. Barcelona’s for a collective exhibition.  The exhibition will be held July 30, 2021 in La Botanica Barcelona at 6 p.m. in the Poble-Sec neighborhood.  See you there!

Parts Vol. II

Aespyne Alix will be a part of the Parts Vol. II at the South Bend Conservatory from 7p.m. - 11 p.m. August 5, 2021.  

Open Studio Barcelona

Aespyne Alix explores mental health as it relates to communities who have experienced trauma due to violence and are working toward wholeness. “The Color of Healing” is Alix’s commentary on humanities empathy practices. R.A.R.O. Residency

Aespyne Alix will be joining the R.A.R.O. summer residency program in Barcelona, Spain. Where she will further her artistic expression and how it relates to mental health and wellness. Be on the lookout for Summer 2021 Vlog about her daily activities. Aespyne Alix will be at the Katia Munoz Art Studio and La Botanica in Barcelona. Open Studio TBA.

Arts and Justice Curriculum

Alix’s “Out of the Valley” and “Age of Aquarius” is featured episode 5 in the South Bend BLM  series of podcasts hosted by Dr. De Bryant for individuals interested in exploring the current movement for racial justice through the lens of Arts and Justice. 

Her Art Form

Mental Wealth

“Mental Wealth” is Aespyne Alix’s first solo exhibition, held at the South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Museum.  A panel discussion will be held shortly after the opening.
